What makes a label compliant under Natasha's Law?
1. Exact Product Name
Must clearly describe what the food is without misleading the customer.
2. Full Ingredients List
All ingredients including compound ingredients (e.g. mayonnaise breakdown) listed in descending order by weight.
3. Bold Allergen Emphasis
Any of the 14 major allergens (e.g. Milk, Eggs, Wheat) must be clearly distinguished in bold, italics, or uppercase.
4. Date & Business Address
Perishable foods must show a "Use by" date. The name and UK address of the food business operator must be visible.
Who needs PPDS labelling?
Natasha's Law applies to Pre-packed for Direct Sale (PPDS) food — food that is packed on the same premises from which it is sold, before the customer selects or orders it. This includes pre-wrapped sandwiches in grab-and-go chillers, boxed bakery items, salad tubs, sausages, and pre-poured pots of sauce or soup.
